On 21st of October at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Trzebinia took place the funeral of Fr. Prof. Tadeusz Styczeń SDS. The Eucharist was presided over by the Most Eminent Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz. In his homily he emphasized the great value of Fr. Styczeń academic heritage and shared his memories of collaboration and friendship of Our Dearly Departed Confrere with Pope John Paul II.

Representatives of circles related to the Professor in their speeches called attention to his steadfast attitude as defender of Truth and human life from conception to natural death.

In the funeral also took part the Most Eminent Cardinal Stanisław Nagy and the Most Eminent Cardinal Polycarp Pengo, Archbishop of Dar-es-Salaam, President of the Bishops’ Conference of Africa and Madagascar and Primate of Tanzania. Among our guests were: the Most Rev. Mieczysław Cisło (Lublin), the Most Rev. Adam Dyczkowski (Zielona Góra), the Most Rev. Andrzej Siemieniewski (Wrocław), the Most Rev. Stanisław Stefanek (Łomża) and the Most Rev. Jan Zając (Kraków). Friends of Fr. Styczeń present at the funeral were, among others, Princess Maria von Liechtenstein and Italian politician Rocco Buttiglione. Also arrived representatives of major Catholic schools: UKSW of Warsaw (Fr. Prof. Helmut Juros), PWT of Wrocław (Fr. Prof. Waldemar Irek), Pontificial University of Cracow (Fr. Prof. Tadeusz Biesaga), Lateran University of Rome (Fr. Prof. Jarosław Merecki) and the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (Prof. Józef Fert and Fr. Prof. Stanisław Janeczek). Besides the Family and students of our Confrere, many of our Salvatorian confreres and sisters, together with Fr. Andrzej Urbański SDS, superior general of the Society and Fr. Piotr Filas SDS, provincial superior, attended the ceremony. Fr. Styczeń was buried at our Salvatorian tomb in the shadow of the Trzebinia’s Sanctuary.

The Funerl Mass will also be celebrated at the academic church of the Catholic University of Lublin October 28th at 12.15 p.m.
