On August 25th 2013, at noon, on the 30th anniversary of dedication of the church in Merrillville and the Parish Feast, took place the coronation of the Icon of Our Lady of Częstochowa venerated in this church. The Most Rev. Dale Melczek, Bishop of Gary, presided over the Holy Mass, in which participated about one thousand of the faithful.

Among the Priests celebrating the Eucharist were also: Fr. Piotr Filas SDS, Provincial Superior of the Polish Province SDS; Fr. Łukasz Kleczka SDS, Superior and guardian of the Sanctuary in Merrillville; Fr. Ambroży Skorupa SDS, Provincial Consultor; Fr. Paweł Krężołek SDS, Direcotr of the Salvatorian Vocation Center; Fr. Paweł Wróbel SDS from Mikołów; Fr. Aleksander Jasiński SDS, treasurer of the Salvatorian Major Seminary in Bagno, and confreres of the local religious community. Among the guests were: Sister Aniela Garecka SDS, Cl. Mario Lainez SDS of the USA Province SDS and seminarians of the Seminary of Bishop Abramowicz of Chicago and Fr. Franciszek Czaicki OCD, prior of the Discalced Carmelite Fathers from Munster, Indiana. In the celebration took part representatives of various Polish-American organizations.
The crowns, because of their size were installed a day before the celebrations. Probably these are the largest crowns in the world. The act of coronation was performed after the homily. Following the Holy Mass the faithful prayed long before the Icon of Our Lady entrusting to Her care their life and giving thanks for graces already received.
