Fr. Krzysztof Świętoń SDS (1952 - 2016)

Fr. Krzysztof Świętoń was born on March 13th 1952 in Młoszowa, near Trzebinia. He was raised, together with his sibling by his parents Marian and Maria nee Trębacz. His father was employed by the Polish State Railways and his mother was a housewife. Krzysztof was baptized and received the Sacrament of Confirmation at Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Trzebinia-Siersza. In 1959 he began attending the elementary school in Młoszowa. Because the family moved, in 1963 he continued his education in Trzebinia. Since 1967 he attended the High School in Chrzanów, from which he graduated in 1971.

On June 19th 1971 he applied to the Salvatorian Novitiate as a candidate to the Priesthood. On September 7th 1971 he began his formation in Bagno. There, on September 8th 1972 he took his first vows. The same year he began to study philosophy and theology at the Salvatorian Major Seminary in Bagno. There, on September 8th 1977 he made his perpetual religious profession. On April 29th 1978 he was ordained to the Deaconate by the Most Rev. Tadeusz Rybak, in Oborniki Śląskie. Afterward he was involved in pastoral ministry at the Blessed Virgin Mary the Queen of Poland Parish in Bielsko – Biała. On September 29th 1979 he was ordained to the Priesthood by the Most Rev. Adam Dyczkowski, in Bagno.

Father Krzysztof’s first place of Priestly ministry was the religious community house in Bielsko – Biała (at Kluski Street), where he worked as a catechist. After two years he asked his Superiors for permission to begin studies in Dogmatics. They sent him to Warsaw, where he studied at the Academy of Catholic Theology in the academic year 1981/1982.

In June 1984 Fr. Świętoń was transferred to the religious community house in Piastów. There he was entrusted with the duties of a parochial vicar and community Vice Superior. In 1985 he asked his Superiors for permission to begin the doctoral studies course at the Academy of Catholic Theology, which he began in the year 1985/1986. At the time he was also a lecturer at the Salvatorian Major Seminary in Bagno. On the same year he was sent to the religious community house in Zakopane – Antałówka, where he served as parochial vicar in the local Parish. On June 2nd 1987 he was appointed as Superior of the community in Zakopane at Bulwary Słowackiego.

In 1989 his Superiors sent Fr. Krzysztof to Elbląg, where he was a Vice Superior and treasurer of the local community and Pastor of Blessed Albert Chmielowski Parish. There, he also supervised the construction of the church. In April 2000 he was appointed as the Vice-Dean of the Elbląg-North Deanery.

Since July 1st 2002 he was Superior and treasurer of the Salvatorian community in Warsaw, as well as Pastor of the Blessed Virgin Mary the Mother of Savior Parish. He also supervised the construction works of the church and community house.

In June 2009 Father Krzysztof received a decree with the decision of his Superiors, sending him to the community house in Bielsko – Biała, where he worked as a spiritual retreat giver, which certainly allowed him to develop his great preaching gift. He was also appointed as pastoral assistant at the Blessed Virgin Mary the Queen of the World Parish. From July 1st 2010 he was transferred to the community house in Mikołów, where he was a pastoral assistant at the local Parish.

After four years he moved to Węgorzewo, where he served as community Superior and treasurer as well as Parish Administrator of the Our Lady of Fatima Parish (and its Pastor since July 2015). At that time he also continued the construction works of the new Parish church.

Father Krzysztof Świętoń passed away unexpectedly, on March 17th 2016, in his 64th year of life, 37th year of Priesthood and 44th year of religious life. His funeral took place on March 22nd, at the Minor Basilica of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Trzebinia. There, he was buried at the Salvatorian community tomb near the Sanctuary.
